Wadi Rum also known as “the valley of the Moon”
“I was in awe of that place. It was really, really special. One of the most spectacular and beautiful places I have ever seen and like nothing I’ve ever seen anywhere else on Earth.” – Matt Damon on Wadi Rum (from his film the ‘Martian)
LISTS OF MOVIES FILM IN WADI RUM:
Aladdin 2019; Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker; Rogue One: A Star Wars Story; The Last Days on Mars; Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (as Egypt); The Martian; Last Days on Mars; Red Planet; The Frankincense Trail; BBC The Face; May in the Summer; Dune; Lawrence of Arabia; Passion in the Dessert; Prometheus; Theeb & also in the song Krish.
Anyways, I didn’t see all those movies above but in these movies part of there scenes were film in Wadi Rum. It’s great to know that many Sci-Fi movies especially landing on Mars were film in Wadi Rum, Jordan. Great! 😀
EXPERIENCE:
After Petra at noon we went to Wadi Rum, it took us almost 2 hour drive of about 120km. We did like a dune adventure ride before we reached the Bedouin’s camp. Wadi Rum is the largest wadi in Jordan also known as “the Valley of the Moon” and listed as one of the UNESCO Heritage site in 2011.
Since prehistoric times Wadi Rum has been inhabited by many human cultures, the most known were the Nabataeans. They leave marks like inscriptions, temples and petroglyphs. On our way, our driver guided us to some rocks to check few prehistoric carvings – above are the photos. There are many petroglyphs in some rocks in Wadi Rum as well as in cave walls. But during our visit we didn’t visited caves due to lack of time.
We then visited the Bedouin’s camp. They offer us tea. We did took rest at the camp too, it was nice. Above are our photos in the camp and with the Bedouins.
To end my journey at planet Mars, here’s to view riding camels in the desert. 🙂

August 15, 2020 5:38 amThe Wadi does look like somewhere from another planet. I don’t think I could live like the Bedouin do, but it looks as though you had a good time there. Great pictures by the way.
