Thanks to my friend Yoli (suggested) and Nabeel (toured), I got the idea of the free walking tour in Tbilisi. I made my fourth day joining this tour. Though I visited already few spots in Tbilisi but joining the tour was different and a great experience as well.
Tbilisi Free Walking Tour now known as Tbilisi Hack Free Tour is a free and independent non-profit organization. The guides are not paid rather they depends on a ‘tips-only’ basis. (At first, I didn’t know that it was like giving tips until I saw some gave our guide a tip. Hehe!)
So here you can decide how much the tour worth for you. Regardless of the weather conditions and public holidays Tbilisi Hack Free Tour runs Tbilisi tours everyday in English and Russian languages. The tour starts from 12 noon for meet up and ends the tour at 5 in the afternoon. The location for meet-up is at the Republic Square in front of the pink building with many Georgian flags at the top.
Our guide that day was Anna the founder and CEO of the organization. She is not a native Georgian but loves Tbilisi and it’s history. I enjoyed with her and the company knowing some facts and history about Tbilisi. The fun part of the tour was the guide can give you lots of stories with no borders. 🙂
Here are my activities in my day 4 in Tbilisi from walking alone, then Tbilisi free walking tour, to exploring other part of Tbilisi with new found friend.
In the morning I roamed parts of the old town Tbilisi alone. This day I still love to explore the city by myself, to get lost, found new spot and met people on the road even without talking. On the other hand because in travelling it is nice to meet and talk to people too and so I made this day joining the Tbilisi free walking tour. In that group tour, you’ve found the best buddy and you had great time travelling together. Below are my day activities with different companions. You can check my video below:
Note: Because I went at the top of the fortress I got lost by the group. Haha! Good thing I’m not alone, Thomas too! This time we became buddies. (Thank you Thomas!) What we missed? We missed touring with the group at Tbilisi Botanical Garden, Sulfur Baths and Juma Mosques. Then found them of about going to end the tour at the ‘I love Tbilisi sign’.
Meet Thomas! Younger than I, he did lots of travels already. I found him so kind and I’m so thankful for his company. Hope to see you again in the future! All the best and success in all your goals! 😉
We had our lunch here after our walk at old town Tbilisi. I ate Khinkali with Borjomi a naturally carbonated mineral water that come from Borjomi springs. Check my other post about foods here: Georgia’s traditional foods and drinks you must try.

Mt. Mtatsminda plateau that overlooks the city have its entertainment and leisure park (which we didn’t visited). Restaurant and television tower are also found here.
Going uphill to Mt. Mtatsminda, we rode this funicular. A single ride cost about Gel 2.00. The length of funicular is approximately 500 metres and the elevation of about 267 metres.
From the restaurant’s building we saw this stunning view of Tbilisi city. We’ve gone to the second floor of the building and found a pastry shop there. What I ate was the fried sweet bun and I love it so much! Check my other post about foods here: Georgia’s traditional foods and drinks you must try.
We ate our dinner here. I got Kupati – this is my favorite of all Georgian traditional foods I tasted. Check my separate post here: Georgia’s traditional foods and drinks you must try.
I reached in my hostel approx. 00.10 in the midnight. I walked by myself from Republic Square to my hostel of about 550 metres in 7 minutes – that I had my fast pace. haha! By the way, as what I heard and read Georgia was the third among the 118 safest countries in the world (posted 2016).
